Six Questions with Director Marty Simonoff

Q1: What area of Orange County do you represent for OCCOG?

A1: I represent SCAG Regional Council District #22. District 22 includes the cities of Brea, La Habra, Placentia and Yorba Linda.

Q2: What is your favorite thing about living in Orange County?

A2: I find the Orange County has so much to offer. Though I live in North Orange County, is easy to get to the many venues Orange County has to offer from dining and shopping to entertainment.

Q3: What issue got you interested in becoming a city councilmember?

A3: In my prior occupation as a Police Captain, I was involved in a variety of community activities. After I retired, I maintained a strong desire for community involvement and brought that desire to my home town of Brea. As I watched the issues the city faced, I felt I could contribute, and that motivated me to run for city council.

Q4: What is Brea doing about the affordable housing issue?

A4: Brea has recently approved a “workforce housing project” and has worked with non-profits to bring in affordable housing to the city. Brea also has had a long-established policy of “inclusionary housing” with a 10% set aside, a policy established long before my involvement with the city.

Q5: What is Brea’s best kept secret?

A5: One of the things that makes Brea different than others is that it only has one Junior high School and one High School. Combining that with the various youth sports programs in the community means that families from all parts of Brea know each other through their children. Add the churches and service clubs and you have a community where the part of Brea you live in does not isolate you from making friends throughout the city.

Q6: School is back in session. Where did you go to high school? What was the school mascot?

A6: I grew up in Downey and attended Warren High School and we were the Warren Bears.
